Drag me to Hell

Aaaahhhh the good old days. Sam Raimi returns to his glorious days of shock horror. Just about everyone remembers the Evil Dead series and what it did for the horror genre. Raimi shocked and scarred us all with a little bit of humor thrown in at the right time. It’s good to see that he didn’t get totally consumed by the great Spiderman films. Sam delivers a wild tale of a poor young girls struggle not be taken over by a dark curse and literally dragged to hell.
Christine Brown is longing for the assistant manager position at her bank. Her manager explains to her that the position will go to the employee who can make the touch decisions when it comes to bank business. Christine must soon help an old woman who is begging for help not to loose her home. Just about the scariest old crusty Gypsy grandma you have ever seen. Well, Christine makes the decision that’s best for her career, and the bank. When Mrs. Ganush begins to get feisty, Christine has the old woman thrown out of the bank. Feeling disrespected and embarrassed Mrs Ganush places a curse on the young girl and damns her to hell. Christine, along with her boyfriend Clay, now must figure out what the curse is, and how to stop it.
Classic Sam Raimi. Showing only whats needed to spook you. Some of the best gross out moments in recent movie history. Raimi still has the gift to make a good scary movie that in some parts can make you laugh and still be completely disgusting. not to heavy or gory for the younger crowd and not to corny for older crowd. Good balance and pretty good acting as well. It is What-to-Watch.

As much as I wanted to love this I just couldn’t let go of the fact that there was nothing new or exciting. I’m not saying I need something new in every movie to enjoy it. I just didn’t find this one offered anything to me. The worst part was the forced reasoning behind the curse. It felt like a cop-out by the writers. It really bugged me for some reason. I could have been in a bad mood while watching this but I do remember the popcorn tested great and I usually enjoy the movie when it tastes great.

Interesting, Sam Raimi can be hit and miss for some people, and your right there wasn’t much that was fresh, but he does horror comedy pretty well. In this genre its hard to be fresh or even average
