Street Fighter: The legend of Chun Li
July 5, 2009
Another video game adaptation (and the second attempt at this game) that completely misses the mark. I guess they are getting better in some ways, but they are still so far from the super hero films its almost funny. They had so much to work with. so much back story and so many interesting characters. All the fans of the video game had high hopes. It’s amazing that they can’t seem to do this one well.
Kristin Kreuk stars as Chun Li, the legendary cutie with power thighs from all the classic street fighter video games. She has to revenge her fathers death which came at the hands of the evil Bison, played by Neal McDonough. Bison runs the Bangkok crime syndicate know as shandaloo (should have been Shadowloo). The acting is poor, even for the pretty good cast. The fight scenes are mediocre as expected. The plot is simple and doesn’t stick to the video game story at all. The characters in the movie aren’t casted very well and they generally don’t stick to any of the video game continuity. Its all eye candy, better suited for the younger crowd that likes quantity not quality. Is it what to watch? not if your over 14.
