The Proposal

I normally shy away from romantic comedies. Most of the time they are not very good. Same story lines, same dull plots (guy likes girl or vice versa, looses girl, then gets her back again in the end), three or four of the same actresses over and over. Goofy side kicks, you know what I mean. Usually they just aren’t very funny. Well, this one is a little different, and funny.
The story of Margaret Tate-Sandra Bullock a tyrannical book editor who is universally hated by everyone, and who treats her assistant Andrew Paxton-Ryan Reynolds worse than anyone. When Margaret’s visa is denied and she is about to be deported back to Canada, she forces her poor assistant to act like they are going to be married so she can stay in the country (and not fire him). When the newly engaged couple try and pass the scam through the immigration department they meet a highly determined agent, who is dead set on bringing the couple down and uncovering the greed card scam. To throw him off the trail, they decide to visit Andrew’s family in Alaska.
Sandra Bullock is really funny trying to cope with her new fiancee, now in his domain, she no longer has the power she wielded over him New York. The all star cast is great as Andrews family, especially his 90 year old granny played brilliantly by Betty White. Its good, smart and What-to-Watch.
